News and Events

  • The Columbus Dispatch recently visited the EERL and wrote a news article about the research being performed.

  • Dr Botte was featured in the Going Green radio series. The series is funded by the Ohio EPA Environmental Education Fund and focuses on people committed to sound environmental principles.

  • Third Frontier grant awarded to Ohio University on behalf of the EERL in the amount of $972,992 for the Development and Commercialization of Ammonia-Based Fuel Integrated Power project. Ohio University will create a "Center of Excellence for Electrochemical Engineering Technologies" to be housed within its existing Electrochemical Engineering Research Laboratory. Teaming with its collaborators, it will pursue integrated ammonia catalytic electrolyzer (ACE) and fuel cell products aimed at power generation for residential and commercial buildings. In addition to supporting ACE commercialization, the facility will provide education opportunities for the work force designing, fabricating, and operating AEC products and will serve as an R&D center for ACE enhancement

  • Dr Botte and Rebecca King attended the 4th International Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Expo in Japan from February 27 - 29 2008.

  • EERL hydrogen fuel technology leads to job creation.

  • Leisa Ostermann joined the EERL

  • Rebecca King and Deepika Singh joined the EERL.

  • American Hydrogen Corp has licensed the EERL technology for commercialization of inexpensive hydrogen generation. American Hydrogen Corp is a subsidiary of Houston based American Security Resources Corp (OTCBB: ARSC). More on partnership at:

  • At the recent North Central AICHE Regional Conference,

    • Amy Weber won 1st place in the paper competition with her presentation entitled, “Feasibility Study on the Use of Ammonia Electrolysis for On-Board Hydrogen Production”.  Now she gets to compete with other regional 1st place winners in the National AICHE conference in Salt Lake City.

    • Stephen Back won 2nd place in the paper competition for his presentation entitled, “Using an Electrochemical Technique to Measure Chromium Ions Simultaneously”.

    • Ohio University came in 2nd place in the Chem-E-Car competition, which secured a spot for the national Chem-E-Car competition later this year in Salt Lake City. The two teams from University of Minnesota won 1st and 3rd place in the Chem-E-Car competition. Ohio University team members included Amy Weber, Stephen Back and Zach Bender with Bryan Boggs as their mentor.
